Satan in Law

One bright, beautiful Sunday morning, everyone in the tiny Midwest town got up early and went to the local church. Before the services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from an evil incarnate.
-
Soon everyone was evacuated from the church, except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew, not moving.....seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence. Now this confused and irritated the Devil a bit, so he walked up to the man and said, "Don't you know who I am?"
-
"Yep, sure do," the elderly man said.
-
Satan asked, "Aren't you afraid of me?"
-
This time the man said, "Nope, sure ain't!"
-
Satan, a little more perturbed at this, asked, "Why aren't you afraid of me?"
-
The man calmly replied, "Been married to your sister for 56 years."

A WORLD UNDER CURSE

1. God cursed the serpent (14-15).God cursed the serpent. He punished him by destroying his pride (14); Satan would be at war with mankind, but in the end, he would lose. God planted the hope and assurance of victory in man's heart. The offspring of the woman would someday crush Satan's head. Jesus, the offspring of the woman, did this (Gal 4:4). He was sorely wounded, but he won the victory by his death and resurrection.
-
2. The woman's punishment (16).God's blessing became a curse. A woman's greatest joy became her greatest pain; furthermore, she became a captive to her own desire for her husband, and instead of being a willing and joyful helper and friend to her husband, she became his slave. Only Jesus can set women free from the curse of slavery to desire for men, and enable her to serve God in freedom and joy.Prayer: Father, I was born under the curse of sin, but I thank you for Jesus, who sets me free and gives me hope and makes me fruitful.

PAUL'S DISTRESS IN ATHENS

Acts 17:16-21
Friday, February 20Key Verse: 17:16
-
1. A city full of idols (16).
Athens was the center of Greek art and philosophy. It looked impressive. However, while Paul waited for his co-workers, he did not go sight-seeing. In fact, he was greatly troubled by what he saw. Athens was full of idols and the people were living in spiritual darkness. Paul saw Athens from God's point of view.
-
2. Paul preaches Jesus (17-21).
Paul was not only distressed by what he saw, but he also did something about it. He went to the synagogue where he taught the Bible to Jews and God-fearing Gentiles. He also went everyday to the marketplace where he preached Jesus' death and resurrection. Some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Epicureans believed that man's chief end was pleasure while Stoics taught people to suppress their desires and be self-sufficient. They did not understand Paul's message, so they invited him to speak in a public forum. The Athenians liked to hear new and interesting messages, but no one was really a truth-seeker.Prayer: Lord, help me to see the world with your eyes and testify to Jesus. One Word: Preach Jesus anywhere to anyone

Humor : Garden of eden

After the fall in Garden of Eden, Adam was walking with his sons Cain and Abel. They passed by the ruins of the Garden of Eden. One of the boys asked, "What's that?" Adam replied, "Boys, that's where your mother ate us out of house and home."

HAVE THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST

Philippians 2:5-11

1. He humbled himself (5-8).
We must have in us the mind of Jesus. He was humble. Even though he was in nature God, he did not flaunt his deity and power. He put on human flesh and came to dwell among us; he even took the nature of a servant. He lived a selfless life serving weak, ungrateful and sin-sick people. He taught us what it means to obey God. He did not doubt God's love, even when he was hanging on the cross. He was obedient even to death.
-
2. God exalted him (9-11).
God exalted him to the highest place, for God exalts the humble and humbles the proud. Humble Jesus was born in a manger. He died for my sins. But now he reigns in glory. His name is above every name, and every knee in heaven and on earth and under the earth must bow to him, and every tongue confess that he is Lord.Prayer: Lord, you who died to be my Savior now live to be my King. Come and rule my heart and life. Plant in me the humble mind of Jesus.

Humor : Jonah and the whale

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
-
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though they were a very large mammal their throat was very small.
-
The little girl stated Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
-
The teacher reiterated a whale could notswallow a human; it was impossible.
-
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.
-
"The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
-
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."

Humor : Police Emergency

This is the true story of George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi, who was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.
-
He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be there when available.
-
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
-
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all.
-
"Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.
-
One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!
-
"George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Hope in Him

1 John 3:2-3, "Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
-
"The first epistle of John is a highly practical book. John does not pull punches or sugar coat God's Word. Those who practice righteousness have been born of God. There is every reason to have confidence as we look to Christ's return and there is no reason to shrink in shame. Through the work of Christ all those who have faith in Christ are made to be like Christ.
-
What that fully looks like we do not yet know but we do know that when Christ returns we will be changed to be like him. The reason? We shall see him as he is. This is an interesting reason because we would expect something more like, "because we will be given glorified bodies." Or, "the old will pass away and the new shall come in its fullness." We do not expect to be changed because we see him as he is. Yet, this is the reason why we will be changed. We are now talking about the Christian's desire to be like Christ. A Christian is not someone who just hopes not to go to hell. A Christian is someone who wants to be like Christ. We want to know God fully. We want to be pure. We want to walk in righteousness pleasing the Father in all things. The glorious truth of the gospel is that when we see Jesus our heart's desire will be met- we shall be like him.
-
Everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. Is this your hope? Do you want to be like Jesus? Does your heart long to put on holiness, righteousness, joy in the Father, God-glorifying obedience, and an unhindered relationship with God? These are the greatest passions a person can possess. Do you hope for these things? The person who hopes for these things, the person who hopes in Christ purifies himself as Christ is pure.
-
Father, in this moment I pray that you would make me like Christ. Give me a mind like His. Give me a heart like His. Give me a purity like His. I want to be like Him so that I may know all three of You, the perfect Trinity. I want you to be pleased with my life and pleased with my death. I want you to be pleased with my thoughts and pleased with my deeds. Purify me this morning through hope. There is much in my life to discourage me. Wash away my sins with the work of Christ. Atone for my sins through Christ. Strengthen me through Christ. Give me hope through Christ. I am Yours my King. I believe in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ and I desire to love others. Through faith in Christ make me like Christ. In Jesus' NameAmen
