SEE GOD'S GLORY

1. See the glory of God (38-40).Jesus was not offended by the doubt and criticism from the Jews. He was deeply moved to rescue them from their unbelief. When they came to the tomb, Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha had made a confession of faith in Jesus (27). But Martha was not ready to put her faith to the test. She believed in the power of death more than in Jesus' almighty power as God. Jesus rebuked her unbelief. Jesus taught her and us an important truth: The difference between light and darkness, life and death, is faith.

2. They took away the stone (41-44).Martha repented at Jesus' rebuke, and they rolled the stone away. Then Jesus prayed. His prayer planted faith that God has the power to defeat death, and that God had sent Jesus. Jesus called, "Lazarus, come out," and he came out of the tomb with the grave clothes still wrapped around him. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. One who believes in Jesus will live, even though he dies; whoever lives and believes in him will never die.
